Bratislava Airport Guide - BTS

Under the code name BTS you find the Bratislava Milan Rastislav Stefanik Airport (located in Ivanka pri Dunaji). This is Bratislava's only airport with scheduled passenger flights. Some airlines use Bratislava to serve nearby Vienna, Austria.

Bratislava Airport is a manageable size with a single terminal. The airport has eight departure gates for international flights and a separate gate for domestic flights. The capacity of check-in counters (presently 11) is set to expand to 19.

The international arrivals hall offers foreign exchange services, coin and card telephones, a snack bar. The Bratislava Culture and Information Service also provides an information stand at the Airport arrivals hall open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday distributing maps and brochures, as well as the Bratislava City Card with free travel on the city's public transport and a variety of discounts.

Getting to the Bratislava Airport
The airport is easily accessible from all around the city by taxi and also serviced by bus. It is convenient to the vast majority of Bratislava hotels because it is now connected to the D1 highway, which allows you to reach other parts of the city usually within at most 30 minutes. If traveling in the evening or early morning, you can even reach the airport in under 15 minutes by car or taxi.

Public Transport
If you are not in a big hurry you can use public transport to get to and from the airport. There is only one bus line, #61, going to the Main Train Station, which then has very good bus and tram connections to most of the city. The bus takes 25 minutes to get to the city. The bus operates at ten minute intervals at peak times and 20-minute intervals off-peak. The full schedule for the Airport Bus can be found here. The trip to the station requires a 30-minute ticket (SKK 18 (EUR 0.57) for adults), which can only be purchased in the ticket machine using Slovak coins. These can be obtained either at the foreign exchange counters or using the coffee vending machine in the arrivals hall to change bills. Bus drivers do not sell tickets on board so you must purchase the ticket before entering the bus.

Bratislava Airport Taxis

Radio taxis ordered by telephone on arrival offer rates to the city centre at about SKK 250-400 depending on taxi company and traffic volume. Waiting time for radio taxi usually runs up to 15 minutes. Please note that taxis at the airport taxi rank charge much higher rates. For taxi phone numbers see Bratislava Taxi information.

As a service to our visitors, we enable you to book a guaranteed Bratislava airport taxi transfer at a special discounted rate of SKK 390 (EUR 12.3) to hotels in most parts of the city. This service may cost slightly more than a radio taxi ordered by telephone, but guarantees you will be met on arrival by the driver, even if your flight is delayed. You can order an airport pick-up using the booking form. You are guaranteed a safe and convenient taxi service from a reliable provider. Taking a taxi waiting at the airport without pre-ordering may be very expensive.

Taxi service from the centre of Bratislava to the airport may be ordered at SKK 350 (EUR 11.04).

Taxi service from Bratislava Airport to the City of Vienna and to the Vienna Airport in Schwechat (VIE) is also available on request using the booking form.

Hotels in Bratislava Closest to Bratislava Airport
Since the Bratislava airport is only located a short distance from the city centre, most hotels in and around the centre can be reached from the airport by taxi within some 20-25 minutes. There are a few cheaper hotels directly in the airport area but these do not offer significant convenience over city-centre hotels. They are too far to walk from the airport and mostly not serviced well by the airport's only public bus line. If you wish to sleep close to the airport to catch an early morning flight, choose any of the hotels in the centre or within 10 minutes by car from the centre. For most hotels, we list the driving time to the airport in their description.

Bratislava Airport Car Rental
At the airport terminal, six car rental companies have permanent representatives stationed in the arrivals hall: Alimex, Avis, Budget, e-sixt, Europcar, Hertz, Klees. Our local rental partners also offer vehicles delivered to the airport on your arrival at competitive rates (see Bratislava car rental info the booking form for quotes and reservations).

Bratislava Airport VIP Lounge
Two VIP lounges are avilable at the Bratislava Airport.

Bratislava Airport Parking
Short-term parking is provided in an open-air car park for 490 vehicles at SKK 60 (EUR 1.89) per hour. For longer stays discounts are available. Parking can be reserved in advance by telephone at +421 2 4857 6261. Parking fees are payable in cash in teller machines or by credit card with the parking lot attendant.

Cheaper parking and long-term parking is also provided in the covered P2 parking lot with shuttle transport (SKK 300 (EUR 9.46) per day, SKK 800 (EUR 25.23) per week).

Flights to and from Bratislava Airport
The Bratislava Airport has grown in importance in recent years, although it has always suffered from the near vicinity of the huge Vienna Airport, a major hub just an hour and a half away from Bratislava. In 2006, the airport served close to two million passengers (with over 250,000 in both July and August).

Some airlines now service the Vienna market from Bratislava, due to lower landing costs, easy border passage and short distance.

There are scheduled flights from Bratislava to some 30 destinations including Prague in the Czech Republic, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Manchester, Paris. In the summer, scheduled and charter flights also operate to holiday destinations in Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey. The Bratislava Airport is a hub to the low cost airline SkyEurope, find information on low cost airline flights to Bratislava. Irish lowcost airline Ryanair operates flights to Bratislava from several destinations.

Bratislava is serviced by the following airlines:
Aeroflot (flights to Moscow-Sheremetyevo 2)
Aeromost
(flights to Kiev-Zhulyany)
Air Slovakia (changed ownership in 2006 to focus on flights from Europe to India)
Czech Airlines (flights to Prague)
EasyJet (discontinued flights to Bratislava in October 2006)
Ryanair (flights to Milan, Dublin, Nottingham - East Midlands)
Slovak Airlines (flights to Brussels, Moscow-Sheremetyevo 2, Tel Aviv) - discontinued due to airline bankruptcy
SkyEurope (domestic flights to Kosice, international flights to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dubrovnik, London-Stansted, Manchester, Milan-Bergamo, Nice, Palma de Mallorca, Paris-Orly, Prague, Rome-Fiumicino>, Split, Stuttgart, Venice, Warsaw, Zadar, Zurich)
as well as several charter companies.

The airport is named for Milan Rastislav Stefanik, a Slovak who made a military and political career in France in early 20th century. The official airport site available here (uses Flash) lists all important info about the airport's capacity, location and facilities.

* The guaranteed Bratislava Airport Taxi Transfer should be reserved at least 48 hours in advance.
