Opera
The Opera in Bratislava is popular among international visitors - for its quality as well as favourable prices. The Opera of the Slovak National Theatre is located in a Habsburg-era building right in the center of the city on Hviezdoslavovo Square.Opera performances are subtitled in Slovak or German, so it is advisable for English-language speakers to familiarise themselves with the plot in advance. Tickets are an excellent value for money and it is important to buy them in advance. Tickets may be purchased up to one month in advance at the Slovak National Theatre Central Box Office, Komenské Square (behind the SNT Historical Building, between streets Jesenskeho and Gorkeho) open Monday to Friday 12 am to 5:30 pm. Concerts
The Slovak National Philharmonic is a body of international reputation, already in its 59th season (Fall 2007). Most concerts are held at the Philharmonic's Reduta building just off the Hviezdoslavovo Square (behind Hotel Carlton).The Philharmonic consists of these ensembles:
Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic Choir, Bohdan Warchal Slovak Chamber Orchestra and other chamber orchestras. The Slovak Philharmonic website contains descriptions of the five ensembles, a searchable schedule of concerts and an on-line ticket reservations option.
Tickets for foreigners are SKK 600 (EUR 18.76), SKK 300 (EUR 9.38) for Chamber concerts and SKK 200 (EUR 6.25) for Junior and Family concerts. Tickets can be reserved on-line.
