Older Reviews for City Hostel Ryan from Wales (UK) wrote on 20.02.2008: The accomodation was exactly as shown (in the photographs) and located as described.
The rooms were of a very good standard and displayed a high level of cleanliness.
The staff at the city hostel were very good. They spoke excellent English and were polite and helpful.
Confirmation was received almost immediately after booking had occurred.
This was my second visit to the city, and in my opinion the accommodation was very good value. I would recommend the city hostel and would happily return again.
This accommodation would not suit groups of noisy tourists (stag and hen parties), as most guests were in couples. (<< Back to City Hostel) Wilfried from Austria wrote on 18.02.2008: Description was accurate, i was a little bit worried about the "hostel" in the name, but it was a small simple "pension" without any meal service. Location, cleanlines, etc was ok. (<< Back to City Hostel) Joseph from USA wrote on 10.01.2008: I stayed at City Hostel and found it to be as described. It could use better soundproofing, but the room was clean and cheap so I won't complain. (<< Back to City Hostel) Daniel from Ireland wrote on 27.11.2007: It was much better than expected. City Hostel was very central, good transport links to and from airport. The room and all the common areas were very clean. It was nice and warm in very cold weather. Overall value was great, staff were friendly and helpful. (<< Back to City Hostel) Cristina from Spain wrote on 25.10.2007: The room was perfect, clean, very spacious and and well located. The only thing that we were not very happy was with the receptionist - she didn`t help was very much with the explanations, she was a bit rude. (<< Back to City Hostel) Haizea from Spain wrote on 14.08.2007: Our staying in Bratislava and in the City Hostel was nearly perfect, except the horrible hot weather we suffered that days!!!
The City Hostel was even better than I expected. The rooms were very clean and suitable. The beds are perfect, and the bathroom very nice and clean. (<< Back to City Hostel) Francois from France wrote on 31.07.2007: Room was a good surprise. Very comfortable room, clean and pleasant.
We arrived early and could not check in before 2 p.m. but we could leave our stuff, on which the lady of the reception kept an eye. We greatly appreciated that. (<< Back to City Hostel) Alexander from Netherlands wrote on 29.07.2007: The descriptions were quite accurate, and the location even better than expected. The lack of air conditioning was tough though considering the heat. (<< Back to City Hostel) Daria from Italy wrote on 26.07.2007: City Hostel was very clean and comfortable. Staff was nice and helpful and it was good to have a free internet access. (<< Back to City Hostel) Nicholas from UK wrote on 25.07.2007: First rate hostel, was more a hotel than a hostel. Beautiful clean room; high power shower with free shower gel; free internet in lobby; friendly helpful receptionist. Incredibly good value, would certainly stay again. (<< Back to City Hostel) Thomas from Denmark wrote on 15.06.2007: Really clean, super service, just perfect value for the money. (<< Back to City Hostel) Davorin from Croatia wrote on 14.06.2007: City Hostel was really great, very clean, and staff was ok, too. Very good Hostel for that price, we got even more than we expected (comparing to other hostels across Europe). (<< Back to City Hostel) Darren from England wrote on 04.06.2007: I have to say the whole thing went extremely well. If anything youy understated the accommodation which for a hostel was a lot cleaner, tidier and secure than I was expecting.
I would say it is for people like us, a bed for the night, with clean shower and toilet facilities per room. Do not expect room service or refreshments.
The only negative in terms of the rooms is a lack of safe facility which meant we had to take all of our money with us each day. (<< Back to City Hostel) Michael from United Kingdom wrote on 04.06.2007: I think the City Hostel is a really good deal, good location, clean, good basic facilities and quiet. It is good value too. (<< Back to City Hostel) Francesca from Italy wrote on 01.06.2007: City Hostel was as described in the feedbacks I read...clean, large rooms, a little bit anonymous in terms of architectural and furniture style, but well located up-hill the old city with a quiet neighbourhood, comfortable and safe-looking for lonely travellers as I was. Young people with little money and backpackers should be greatly happy and satisfied with the lodging. (<< Back to City Hostel) Santiago from Spain wrote on 08.05.2007: City hostel was pretty good. Quiet clean and very new. Yes is as I expected even better. It's suitable for backpackers as well as for weekend trip from any place in Europe. Simple but clean. Enough for a fast weekend for everybody. (<< Back to City Hostel) Paul from USA wrote on 20.04.2007: City Hostel was clean, simple, friendly. Great central location, friendly desk, and convenient internet available. Dorms are fine for families, groups of friends, or young single travelers. I was quite happy in my single room (as a slightly older single traveler). (<< Back to City Hostel) Harald from Austria wrote on 16.04.2007: It was OK, it is suited for young travelers as it is very noisy due to young and drunk guests and you can hear every little noise in the room (no good noise isolation). (<< Back to City Hostel) Fionn from Ireland wrote on 09.04.2007: City hostel was much better than I had expected. The room we were in was very spacious and very clean. I would recommend it to anyone, from backpackers to people on weekend visits. (<< Back to City Hostel) Kristina from United Kingdom wrote on 06.04.2007: We checked into City Hostel without a hitch. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very clean and as described on the website. There was some noise throughout the night from other guests and so I believe the accommodation is best suited to young travellers. We were very satisfied with our stay in this hostel and would recommend it to others. (<< Back to City Hostel) Mick from UK wrote on 07.03.2007: I would recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to go on a budget hotel. It was clean, nicely decorated, secure and modern. The best thing about it was the price and the location, was on one of the main roads for pubs in the city. (<< Back to City Hostel) Chun from UK wrote on 01.10.2006: The hotel itself was fine. One very minor point is that they need to get the internet sorted! It is free, but I haven't ever ever seen such a slow connection speed!! However, I would still recommend the hotel as all was fine there. The staff were always willing to help answer questions. (<< Back to City Hostel) Kevin from UK wrote on 30.09.2006: Unfortunately our stay at City Hostel was not very good. We arrived just before 24:00hrs as we informed them, and were assigned our room.Just before 08:00hrs we were woken by very loud drilling and hammering from the room above. It was so loud It was unbearable. I went to complain to reception and was informed there was an extension being built, no apology nothing. I e-mailed them on my return and recieved an apology but I think I should have been given a discount or offered another night sometime in the future,as I would never have stayed in the room if I had been told It was going to be noisy therefore I feel duped. I will not recommend this hostel to anyone. (<< Back to City Hostel) Tom from USA wrote on 26.09.2006: The City Hostel was, as described, clean, comfortable, and a great deal--also in a great neighborhood. The check-in went without a hitch. I would recommend BratislavaHotels.com and City Hostel to any other traveler going to Bratislava. (<< Back to City Hostel) Rob from England wrote on 20.09.2006: City Hostel was good. It was nice, tidy and clean. It was as I would expect and was as described. I would recommend this hotel to others, it was nice and central as well. (<< Back to City Hostel) Ludwig from Luxemburg wrote on 15.09.2006: The hostel was indeed a very good deal. Ensuite bathroom, linen, towels, etc make the place feel more like a hotel than a hostel. However, I do have some reservations. It can be rather noisy during the night and not all staff speak English. My major complaint is the taxi to the airport booked for us by the receptionist. It was very dodgy indeed with pictures of naked women on the dash board and above all we were charged 900 Koruny, which is double what we paid from the airport to the hostel. (<< Back to City Hostel) Jasper from Netherlands wrote on 13.09.2006: Clean, quiet, good location, simple rooms, just as expected. (<< Back to City Hostel) Astrid from Austria wrote on 11.09.2006: City Hostel is quite near to the center and easy to reach by foot but not so near as described. It seemed like newly renovated. The staff was very friendly, the rooms small, but nice and clean with very, very hard beds. But: I would never stay there again, because it was so loud the hole night, that we couldn't sleep for a minute. Doors were slamed at 5 in the morning, people were shouting. Usually the reception should say something - they were there 24h - but the reception is in another building where they might not hear the noise. So I just would recommend it to people who do not need much sleep. (<< Back to City Hostel) Jelga from Netherland wrote on 08.09.2006: The hostel was fine, the room was clean and spatious and it turned out to be even cheaper then it said on the website, because I had to pay the price of a single room for a double bedroom (single use). There were two minor problems: there was a very bad smell in the bathroom (the sewers probably) and people started working in the courtyard of the hotel quite early (at 7.30am), which was rather noisy. (<< Back to City Hostel) Koen from Netherlands wrote on 06.09.2006: Certainly a recommendation: clean, nice room, good location. The only disadvantage that the bed was quite small for a person of 1.90m (my length). (<< Back to City Hostel) Maria from Finland wrote on 14.08.2006: The location of the hostel was perfect and the room was spacious enough for 3 people. However, our bathroom was not cleaned after the previous customer, the trash bin was full and there were underwear on the floor. The staff didn't clean it, despite our request. They nevertheless did offer us another room, but we didn't want to move because our stuff was already unpacked and we were heading for town. (<< Back to City Hostel) Peter from UK wrote on 08.08.2006: City Hostel was very good place to stay. Very central, quite cheap, and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definately reccomend this place to other people, and would stay here again. (<< Back to City Hostel) Britta from Germany wrote on 04.08.2006: I liked it very much, newly renovated, clean and good room-service, nice surrounding, I can definetly recommend it. (<< Back to City Hostel) Joris and Emanuela from Italy wrote on 08.07.2006: We found it exactly as described. The locals over there were very friendly and helped us with all our questions.
Our room was very clean and exactly as described in the text and on the photos. The place itself is quiet, very near the center and not so far from the train station, but due to road works (whole Bratislava looked like under construction), it wasn't so easy to reach it.
Check also the nearby coffee shop ("Coffee and co") out.
One slight negative point about the room is that there seemed to be a problem with the bathroom sewers, every morning the bathroom smelled quite bad. (<< Back to City Hostel) Harry from England wrote on 17.05.2006: Enjoyed our stay at City Hostel. All was very clean, friendly people, easy to book. Would definately recommend to others. (<< Back to City Hostel) Alan from UK wrote on 14.05.2006: The hostel was excellent, one of the best I have stayed in, and would recommend it to anyone going to Bratislava. (<< Back to City Hostel) Christophe from France wrote on 25.03.2006: The stay at the City was great, the price very good, the place very clean. I would recommend it without any hesitation. The fact that there was no phone and internet connection was a problem (internet is now a must). And the walls of the hotel are a bit thin. But the price/ quality ratio was good. (<< Back to City Hostel) Estelle from France wrote on 24.03.2006: Very nice and comfortable (just a little noisy: you hear opening/closing the doors from all the floor during the night). I recommend it to other travelers (with earplugs). (<< Back to City Hostel) Gaia from Italy wrote on 01.03.2006: Surely I'll recommend this good hotel to all my friends! (<< Back to City Hostel) Gerhard from Austria wrote on 12.01.2006: City Hostel is a very good choice for travelers staying just one or two nights, breakfast can be taken in one of the restaurants nearby, rooms were very new and clean, location is excellent for having a night out in Bratislava. (<< Back to City Hostel) Paula from Portugal wrote on 04.01.2006: We were very happy with this choice. It was very close to the town center, the room was spacious, warm and clean. Definitely, a good choice. (<< Back to City Hostel) Sergio from Spain wrote on 19.12.2005: It was clean, new and it is located in a really nice area. Also, the owners are friendly. There is only one point I missed, the breaskfast is not included and you have to eat it outside the hostel. (<< Back to City Hostel) Kirsty from UK wrote on 19.12.2005: It was better than described and than it appears in the photos. I would highly recommend the City Hostel. The rooms are large and all en-suite. It is cheap, clean and very good value for money. It is extremely near the centre of the old town, with helpful and friendly staff. (<< Back to City Hostel) Chris from UK wrote on 13.12.2005: City Hostel was actually better than I expected as it offers much better and private facilities than a normal hostel for not that much more money.
