Bratislava in December
December in Bratislava means countdown to Christmas, Christmas itself, countdown to New Year and party time.
The Christmas Markets in several main central squares run until December 22. The colder it gets the more you will enjoy the warm white or red mulled wine, honey wine or punch.
Most days there are live performances at stages in two of the market squares.
New Year is the party of the year in Bratislava. Events start at 4 pm with a show for children in Hviezdoslavovo Square followed by two respected local bands you can dance to and a disco from 10 pm to 2 am.
The Main Square if the centre of the festivities, featuring live concerts of six great slovak bands. Polemic, a Ska Act, ushers in the New Year.
The countdown and fireworks take place nearby, by the Danube river.
Weather
It is cold. Snow is common but not guaranteed. Long-term average temperatures in December are about 1 degree celsius.
Events
Openeon, a neon exhibit at the Open Gallery takes place until January 8.
The International Film Festival runs until December 4 at the Palace Cinemas Aupark.
The Bratislava Music Festivities, the city's largest classical music event, run from late November to early December. This year the festivities end on December 6. Daily concerts take place in the old Slovak National Theatre building, Mirror Hall of the Primatial Palace and several other venues around the Old Town.
New Year's Eve Celebrations in Bratislava are very popular with people from several nearby countries, particularly from the former Yugoslavia. The large outdoor party occupies the hear of the Old Town.
Parties/Concerts
Designers United Christmas Bazaar takes place December 19, 2009 at the now legendary Cvernovka factory. The party runs until 2 am.
Great parties are taking place almost every day at the current place to be in Safarikovo Square, the brand new Nu Spirit Club.
