The Old City Hotel is not really very luxurious. The comfort was absolutely minimal, but is ok if you are there with 3 guys in their 20's. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

The location of the hotel was great. I think that the cleanliness was rather OK. The quality of the hotel was quite low. The place didn´t feel like a hotel at all.We changed room to a better one that was a bit better than the ordinary rooms. We did expect that the rooms had windows to the outside and not to a kind of corridor. Strange curtions that you couldn´d open, very narrow beds and no light by the bed if you wanted to read a book and the staff wasn´s very interested of the custemors. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

The rooms were of acceptable standard for 1 night stay, although running hot water would have helped! (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

I booked 3 rooms - Shower hooks were broken in 2 rooms. Couldn't
operate shower in 1 room. Hotel position perfect. Price reflected
quality. Not suitable for families but would re-book for group of males.

I expected that hotel will be more bigger. I was alone but I got a 3 bed bedroom. Location is great - you can reach all the tourist spots on foot and even walk to Aupark shopping centre within 15 minutes. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

Location -- good but floor was so bad w/o lift. Cleanliness -- worst. My wife was very disappointed, almost became sick. Overall value -- never again.
"Comfort room" was not comfort at all. The room and bath were so dirty. I chose the hotel based on a recommendation by a conference organizer. But it was so bad.
The Hotel requested us to pay all the room charge at check-in. So we had no freedom to cancel when we entered into the dirty "Comfort room".
I hope that the conference organizer or Bratislava Hotels should not put the Old City Hotel on their Web page, so as not to make victims like us any more.

The description does not include one important fact, that Old City hotel is situated above a night bar (or similar) and that it is really really loud (only visitors' comments include this fact). (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

The description was correct. Also the commends of other guests that there were a lot of stairs to climb before reaching the reception was right! (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

We were very happy with the staff at the reception. Room design is very nice. Reservation confirmation has been forwarded to us promptly
There were no cups in the room. The room was clean, but not very clean.
Your hotel is more suitable for the younger people, not for families or
older guests. You should warn your guests about this - especially at new years eave, it is very noisy and the rooms are not soundproof at all! You should warn your guests about the fact that there is no lift.

Room was quite small. Cleanliness, service and overall value was OK.
(in this price level). Location of the hotel was great.

The hotel was all right, not luxurious but the place in the middle of the old town was perfect. I think though, that you should add a warning about the stairs. It was difficult to get to the room with the heavy suitcases. For the disabled persons it would be impossible. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

I usually don't write a review on the hotel, but my experience with Old City Hotel was not very pleasant.
First hotel is situated on the third floor and there was not even warning that this hotel doesn't have any lift.
Secondly, hotel was very noisy, loud music playing until midnight and there was also not a warning that this hotel was situated above the night club. I even had to request a toilet paper.
Thirdly, the price for this hotel was different when from what I booked with you and what I actually payed for.
I would never recommend this hotel to anybody. I travel a lot and the standard of this hotel doesn´t match the price.

Old City Hotel was charming but not entirely what I was expecting. I was travelling with an older person and I'm not sure I would have selected it knowing it was almost 100 stairs up to reception and on top of a 'night club'. Also the noise level in the hotel from the other rooms was quite extreme and there was a bit of a safety issue with having to leave the keys at the front desk. I feel this hotel is more suited for "stag parties", backpackers and college students. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

Nice and clean room. Non-smoking is good! Unfortunately quite noisy outside - music late night and starting at 6.15 in the morning - and noisy guests next to my room, so I got hardly any sleep. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

The hotel was good and I would recommend even if the room was left pretty dirty after the first day, also the room had no closed wardrobe, which is very unusual for western Europeans. In any case the location was superb and considering the limited choice of hotels in Bratislava the hotel is surely recommendable. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

Old City Hotel was nice, but in fact it is a good hostel, not a hotel. I have expected a little higher standard. No breakfast, no phone in the room, no lift, no parking, no credit card payment, noise due to construction works in neighbouring buildings... There were all secondary details, but there have been too many of them at once to fully enjoy the hotel. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

The Old City Hotel was as expected and as described, great location, bit noisy and lots of stairs. These did not bother us, we were expecting this and did not mind. We would recommend the hotel to other travellers, as long as they don't mind that it can be noisy late into the night. If you don't mind this, as we did not then it is a good place to stay. It was as described but we would NOT recommend it as it was noisy (late night) due to the lounge area under our room.
We enjoyed the old town area but would caution friends of the large number who visit only to drink and party. For a quiet stay higher priced accomodations are probably required.

Hotel acommodation exactly as described. The hotel is in an excellent location for exploring Bratislava and accessing all the bars and restaurants nearby. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others BUT you must ensure that any prospective guests realise there are over 100 steep stairs to the rooms in the hotel. Anyone who is not physically able would not be able to stay there. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

The circular steps to the top-most floor were truly difficult with luggage. Tired travelers should beware. However, this would probably not be an issue if a person was staying multiple nights, but we only stayed one, and the up and down was brutal. The room was interesting, though, and overall we enjoyed our stay. Although there wasn't one in the room, I was able to borrow a blow-dryer from the front desk. And when we had difficulties with our next accommodation, the Old City Hotel desk clerk assisted us until we resolved the problem. They also allowed us leave our luggage until we could check in the next hotel. The only problem was that the evening we stayed there, when we arrived back at our room, after having checked in and then gone out for dinner, two windows were wide open and the room was FREEZING. It took quite a while to get the room warm again. Also, the walls were very thin so when a noisy group of male neighbors returned at 2:30 a.m. from the bars, it was loud and disruptive. There was no coffee available in the morning, even though a breakfast was available...? Those are minor negatives. Overall it was a nice room in an excellent location. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

Malcolm from UK wrote on 11.12.2005 2005-12-11:
Overall I think that the hotel was OK, but with a few changes could be a lot better - my room was quite dimly lit, and the beds could have been bigger and more comfortable for example. Also not taking credit cards is a bit old fashioned. However cleanliness was good, the staff were frienly and I had quite a lot of space. It is certainly better than the Gremium where I stayed last year, and it is perfectly situated.
I do think it should be clearer that the hotel is only suitable for those who can handle quite a lot of stairs while carrying their luggage. I was OK but I can imagine quite a lot of people struggling.

It is actually better than expected for that the rooms are really cosy and clean. It is in a perfect location - the town square and a good selection of cafe/bars/restaurants/pubs is literally around the corner. We understood from previous comments that there will be noise from the streets and the hotel only takes cash so these did not bother us. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

It was very nice and perfectly located. Everything described was exactly correct. Except they didn't say that you could only pay with CASH!!! Also, the stairs are very hard to manage if you have heavy luggage. (<< Back to Old City Hotel)3

Old City Hotel is a good choice for a traveler. This hotel is in the center of Bratisalva and it's a pleasure. Prices are sweet for Bratislava.
Things to improve: It's difficult and expensive to get a car park. If we have a big luggage, it's hard to go to Old City Hotel and to go up. It's no good to have to pay cash. It'would be better if we could pay with a credit card.
