The Telegraph's Richard Robinson spends a 'Weekend to remember' in BratislavaThe Telegraph newspaper published a very positive feature on a weekend
spent in Bratislava in its Travel Section on January 25, 2005 under the
headline "Weekend to remember".
Richard Robinson found two things to complain about: noise from the
very efficient tram system in his Hotel Ibis room and a long queue at
the Bratislava Airport passport control but the rest of his stay was "a
treat". The feature sings praise of Bratislava's Christmas
Markets with their heaping offering of "tasty savoury and sweet snacks
with copious quantities of mulled wine, just right for the sub-zero
temperatures". The author appreciated a walk through the
Old Town, visit to the Bratislava Castle with scenic views, the Blue
Church (at Bezrucova near Safarikovo Square, by the Old Town side of
the Old Bridge), "a gem by the Hungarian, Lechner, an architect who is
to Budapest as Gaudí is to Barcelona." Evenings were spent
"drifting among beer taverns, dining on satisfying Slovakian dishes,
enjoying a first-class classical concert at Bratislava's gilded, rococo
Reduta". The article recommends the "palatial" Marrol's Hotel,
Prasna Basta restaurant on Zamocnicka, A-Klub on Panska (both featured
in our dining guide), as well as concerts at the National Philharmony
on Palackeho. The full text of the article can be found here.
