Food, English, Smoking, Concerts, Tickets, Castle

Bratislava has improved enormously since my last visit. I remember struggling to find an open restaurant in 1994, today there are a great many cafés and eating places. The food we did eat was also good. Another positive was that everyone in the cafés and restaurants speak foreign languages. Negative things? It is very hard to escape cigarette smoke! Too many people smoke and in cafés, restaruants, non smokers are the exception which can be unpleasant. Another slightly negative thing: we wanted to go to a concert and was able to find a website where we could book tickets. Although the site (ticketportal.sk) allows you to find events and start a booking procedure, it sometimes goes wrong but doesn't tell you what the problem is! We wanted tickets for the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra but it was not possible to pay for them (which I would have done) over the internet. Luckily, we bought tickets for the concert, and although the orchestra has quite a poor violin section, I don't think this is what you want to know!!! The concert was a very pleasant experience otherwise! We went to the castle museum which was a pleasant environment - excellent coffee shop at the top! - I would say that the English translations in the museum are very poor and I think would be hard to understand for someone who wasn't a native speaker (as a native speaking Englishman, I can guess what the translator is trying to say. An Italian who knows English would struggle).
